ART® is a patented, state of the art soft tissue/movement based technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.
The goal of ART® is to restore optimal texture, motion, and function of the soft tissue and release entrapped nerves. This is accomplished through the removal of adhesions or scar tissue through specific protocols. During an ART® treatment, an adhesion will be located by palpation. Then the tissue will be shortened and slight compression with tension applied. While the muscle is under tension it will be actively lengthened, causing the adhesions to “break up” and restore the normal function of the tissue.
Active Release Techniques is an integral part of the treatment at Highlands Sport and Spine and is extremely effective in treating overuse or repetitive use injuries. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
How do these overuse injuries occur though?
